The master’s degree requirement that went into effect on 7/1/16 only applies to teachers seeking certification for the first time in CT. All those who are currently certified are grandfathered. The SDE has not yet issued a statement about what is meant by a master’s in an “appropriate subject matter area” (per statute), so we don’t have any guidance as to what that even means yet, but here’s the “Cert Alert” document from the SDE: http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/pdf/cert/certalertfebruary2015.pdf, and information from our CEA webpage: http://www.cea.org/professional/news/2015/feb/09/professional-educator-certification-requirements-changing-in-2016.cfm, in case you’d like to share either link with members who have questions.
