Katelyn Fitzpatrick graduated from Conard High School in 2006. She has many fond memories which include:
– Braeburn Elementary School where she loved the library and tried to read every book. She credits her teachers for enabling her to become an avid reader.
– Sedgwick Middle School where she was taught the importance of giving back to the community by substitute teacher Mr. Berard. She also found her passion for science at Sedgwick.
– Conard High School where Mrs. Hostetter was able to connect with her passion for reading and introduced her to one of her favorite book series – the Sister Fidelma series by Peter Tremayne. At Conard, she also traveled to Argentina and her love of travel had begun.
Katelyn graduated from UConn in 2010 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and minors in Chemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. She was also named female engineer of the year. She interned at Unilever in Trumbull, CT for two summers while at UConn. Prior to starting her senior year at UConn, she was offered a permanent position upon graduation.
She continues to work at Unilever as a Senior Scientist and Technical Project Leader for their Skin Cleansing Global Design Center. She develops new body washes for regions around the world.
Her zest and passion for traveling continue to grow. She has visited a different country
every year to experience various cultures. This past year she spent two weeks in South Africa and two months later, she was in Europe for three weeks for work.
Her biggest advice for others is to live life to the fullest – go after your passions and don’t make excuses to put off what you truly want to do.
