Caitlin Piker 2013

Caitlin Piker, Conard Class of 2013

Only a week after graduating from Conard High School in June 2013, Caitlin began “Swab Summer” (basic training) at the United States Coast Guard Academy.   She is majoring in Mechanical Engineering while also playing on the soccer team and throwing javelin, discus and hammer for the track and field team. While in the Coast Guard, Caitlin has had many amazing opportunities. Just to list a few, she spent four weeks  in San Francisco participating in search and rescue missions and law enforcement, sailed up the entire east coast on a 295 foot sailing vessel, saluted the President at the 2015 Graduation Ceremony, was a cadre that trained the class of 2019 during their “Swab  Summer”, and qualified as an “Expert” in pistol marksmanship this past summer. She is currently a junior spending her fall semester at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. She recently earned her “Jump Wings” after completing five solo skydives.

While at Conard High School, Caitlin participated in many different clubs and sports teams including soccer, ice hockey, and track and field, and was on the Class Board.  Outside of school, she was on a FIRST robotics team, participated in the West Hartford Police Explorers program, volunteered with Special Olympics skiing and track, and was active with her church youth group.  She recommends taking advantage of the STEM programs at Conard because they can give you a taste of engineering and science fields and they prepared her well for the rigorous engineering program at the Coast Guard Academy.   She also suggests getting involved in activities outside of academics and having fun doing what you enjoy.
Caitlin will graduate in 2017 as an Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. She

hopes to be stationed in Florida or California and wants to be involved in Search and Rescue and Drug Interdiction. She recommends the Coast
Guard to anyone looking for an adventure.
